He is Risen: Now What?

The empty tomb challenges the pull back to “normal,” inviting us to wrestle with what it really means that Jesus is alive instead of rushing past it. If the resurrection is real, then something in us has to change—so pause long enough to let that truth actually reshape your life.

Yesterday we celebrated Easter. The tomb is empty. Jesus is alive. But here's the question I want to sit in today. Now what? Because if we're honest, most people celebrate Easter Sunday, and by Monday, it's back to normal life. Same stress, same habits, same mindset. In Gospel of Luke 24, verses 1 through 12, the women go to the tomb, they show up expecting death, they brought spices, they were prepared for a body, but instead the stone is rolled away, the tomb is empty, and the angels ask them, Why do you seek the living among the dead? We rush past the very thing that's supposed to change everything. We go from resurrection right back into routine. But the resurrection isn't just something to celebrate, it's something to sit in until it actually shifts you. Sit in the wonder, sit in the weight of it, sit in the reality that death was defeated. Because if you don't slow down here, you'll miss what God is trying to do in you right now. So Kendra, I have kind of two questions. You can answer either one of them. What in you needs to change, or what in you has changed because Jesus is alive?

I'm gonna go with the last one. Because as you know, for this Lent, I have actually shown up better than I have in the past. And just the last few days it has felt like I have I mean, I understood what happened, but like to actually sit there and think about it, it's crazy to think about. And I love that I have put forth the effort this Lint and Easter to really understand more of what God has done for me, for all of us.

It makes the things that we think are quote hard seem very minuscule. I mean, don't get me wrong, like there are atrocities in this life. There are really, really hard things that we go through. But generally speaking, the daily inconveniences are just that. They're inconveniences. They are not hardships, they are not suffering.

Here is an example. At Easter Mass, obviously we're kneeling and going through the beautiful parts of the Mass. And my knees hurt when I kneel. I don't know. I think I've shared this before, but I tore both my SELs in high school. So like I have no feeling on my knees, but like I feel pressure, and now they kind of hurt. And I have very intentionally started leaning into that hurt. Not because I'm weird, but because I see it as, okay, I can offer this up to meet Jesus at the cross. And it's so small.

Yeah. But still. But it's one of those things where instead of complaining, oh my gosh, my knees hurt so bad when I kneel. It's like, okay, I can do this and I can, I can just even in the smallest amount of suffering that I go through, like I can show up and do this for him. It is funny because I'll admit this. I actually did time how long we kneel during mass one time because I had a client who was talking about how it was very difficult for her. And so I was like, you know what? I just want to see. It was less than seven minutes total that we kneel at Mass.

Now I'm talking from the beginning of Mass to the end of Mass. I'm not talking about before. Right. But seven minutes, I was like, come on, like if Jesus can go through what he went through, if Mary can go through what she went through, like we need to realize that the daily inconveniences are just that and offer up every single one of them so that we can change. I think one of the biggest things that's changed for me throughout Lint, and I really do feel like I'm being called to change even more, is how I show up as a mom. It's not that I need to show up and do more, but I need to surrender the illusion of control for what it looks like to be a parent. And that doesn't mean that I'm, you know, changing my beliefs and changing how I parent, but I also need to, I need to be acutely aware that my children are beautiful little individuals and they're not just cookie cutters of me. I don't want them to be able to do it.
